My Musical Culture
Hi everyone! I'm Sydney and I'm a music therapy major with my focus instrument being oboe. I've played oboe for about 8 years now and I've wanted to do music therapy for about 5. I've always had a passion for music and an interest in the emotions that music provokes. I love how music can immediately and effortlessly change your entire mood and the entire surrounding vibe.
1. Music that's important to me:
Dreams by Fleetwood Mac has become especially important to me over the past year. I think this song holds a special place in my heart because I have listened to it so many times while going on adventures with my friends. I have a lot of positive memories associated with this song and it's also just a genuinely good song with positive vibes. Almost everyone knows this song and it's always a crowd favorite on car rides. I've included a video of me and my puppy, Coda, dancing to it :)2. Music that's helped me get through the pandemic:
Music that helped me most in the pandemic has been the music on a collaborative playlist I have with some of my friends. The playlist is shared between me and two of my friends and we all just put in songs that we know the others will like. It's been a way for me to stay connected and feel close to my friends even though I couldn't see them. One song on this playlist is "Vultures" by John Mayer and I would have to say it's the song that helped me through the pandemic the most.
3. Music that I don't particularly like:
I tend to gravitate towards music that makes me feel good. While I appreciate all music for what it has to offer, I just don't really vibe with music that has a hateful message or leaves me feeling angry. I do respect the high energy of this song, it's just not my cup of tea.
